A Citrus County K-9 had quite an adventure Friday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Repo traveled through multiple yards and wetlands, encountered neighborhood dogs and leaped over fences, all to apprehend a man who was accused of strangling his girlfriend.

  • Aviation and K-9 units were deployed
  • Suspect was accused of strangling his girlfriend
  • K-9 Repo found the suspect hiding under a truck, deputies say

The suspect, Shawn Collins, reportedly fled through the back door of his residence when officers arrived. After backup came, the sergeant on the scene chased him and attempted to make contact, but Collins continued to run.

Aviation was involved, but it was K-9 Repo and his handler Deputy Indorato who reportedly found Collins hiding under a truck.

“It was not a wise decision for Collins to run,” said Sgt. Cregg Dalton, who was first on scene. “The air unit, K-9 Deputy Indorato and his K9 Repo, the Tactical Impact Unit and multiple Alpha 1 East units were involved in this apprehension and we all worked as a team. We caught the suspect, helped the victim, and thankfully, everyone in the agency went home safe.”

Collins faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding, felony domestic battery by strangulation.
