A driver crashed into a stopped police cruiser on the Howard Frankland Bridge overnight, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

  • Police officer was stopped, assisting stranded motorist
  • A third vehicle crashed into both the cruiser and disabled car
  • No injuries were reported

The incident happened at around 2:30 a.m. on Interstate 275 near Tampa.

The SPPD officer stopped to assist a stranded motorist in the northbound lanes. According to police, a third vehicle crashed into the police vehicle and the disabled car. Two of the three cars (not the police cruiser) caught on fire, according to the police report.

No injuries were reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
