School district reports teacher error payComments Off on School district reports teacher error pay
A teacher pay error in Manatee County has many upset.
The Manatee County School District reports they mistakenly hired 174 new teachers and paid them more money than teachers already working in the district, with the same level of experience.
A middle school teacher brought the issue up to the school board a few weeks ago.
Immediately after, the district began investigating.
The district announced an error had been made and they are now trying to make it right.
“All of the 174 people who were impacted, were sent a letter saying that they were going to be able to keep their salary for this year, but next year they would be placed on the same level with their peers who have the same number of years of experience,” said Pat Barber, Manatee Education Association.
All affected teachers have been notified.
The pay changes range from $ 300 to $ 3,000.
No teachers’ pay will change this year, however, a decrease in pay for them is expected for the 2016-2017 year.
