St. Petersburg police have increased efforts in recent months to improve pedestrian safety on local streets.
Starting Monday, the agency is rolling out its second phase of its High Visibility Enforcement for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety campaign.
This is the second phase of a special FDOT-funded operation that started in January.
For the last three months, officers have educated pedestrians and bicyclists about the rules of the road and how they apply to them.
According to police, officers talked to about 2,000 people during the initial phase.
Officers will now issue tickets to violators.
Today’s initial enforcement operation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the area of 3rd Avenue South and 3rd Street South. This is the first of many areas in the city where patrols will be conducted.
